- I had my 30th birthday, with a surprise birthday party thrown by the lovely CIFORD Kenya team.

- I was deep in thought about what I want to do in the future due to my milestone birthday. So with help from my lovely fellow volunteer Kirsty who I have been living with this month, I finally achieved my goal of creating a art online portfolio and blog website ( The day before my 30th to!) THANK YOU KIRSTY!

- I have met so many inspiring and friendly women whilst in Meru Kenya. We have visited women's groups in the local community- sang, danced, shelled peas and even had a go at rope making. These women are TOTAL hero's.

- Last week we met some lovely and inspiring young girls. They are a gorgeous mix of cheeky, playful and incredibly intelligent- they want to get a education and to be free from FGM, I have so much faith in them. CIFORD held a girls empowerment and education week which ended with a alternative rite of passage ceremony for the girls, their families and the local community leaders attended.

So here I am coming to the end of this volunteer placement with Child.org and CIFORD. I will truly miss this community, CIFORD and its magnificent leader Margret and my fellow visitors and volunteers.

I have learned so much, not least how incredibly lucky and privileged I am in this world.

p.s I know I should say sorry about my spelling and grammar but this is just me. Plain old dyslexic me so I'm not going to over edit or worry to much about it. :
